As Dean of this School, it is a great privilege for me to welcome you to the newest school of our University. Welcome to the fascinating world of Dentistry where science is combined with art, pain is transformed into a pleasant smile and the quality of life of people is improved, not only through the knowledge acquired but also through the application of knowledge to transform and positively impact society.
In the School of Dentistry, there is an environment that inspires students to achieve the highest standards of excellence in their learning process, research and service to the community. Our faculty are committed to quality academic training, not only teaching but educating future dentists to exhibit professionalism in their duties.
Dental education has traditionally focused on restorative and clinical dentistry. But the recognition of the links between oral and general health requires a model of dental education that fosters active collaboration among healthcare professions and disciplines which provide the competency to equip our graduates with an opportunity to address population needs that go beyond the dental chair. Therefore, our curriculum is designed to help our trainees develop an awareness of public health service and policy, inter-professional cooperation, critical thinking, decision making, self-management, organizational culture, reflection and interpersonal feedback. To this extent the modules of our programme are unique and currently not available in any other University in the country.
